My Online Arena Transfer News: Manchester United confirm Nick Powell's Signing



Manchester United confirmed the signing of teenager Nick Powell on a four-year deal.

The transfer fee is understood to be in the region of $6.2 million as United sealed the deal for one of England's hottest prospects. United beat out interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, for the 18-year-old attacking midfielder from Crewe.
Powell was thrown into the spotlight when he scored a magnificent goal for Crewe in the League Two playoff. The Red Devils were the ones to show early interest and Powell decided to sign for the red-half of Manchester, after admitting he was excited to be given the opportunity to work under Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It really is a dream come true to be signing for Manchester United," Powell told Manchester United's official website.
"I have had a great time at Crewe and I would like to thank them for helping me to develop as a player over the past 13 years.
"I'm excited about continuing my development with Sir Alex and the world-class players in the squad.
"The thought of making the step up to the Premier League next season is an exciting prospect. I can't wait to get started."
Ferguson and assistant manager Mike Phelan made a personal check on the 18-year-old in May, watching him in action against Aldershot Town, and took the decision to move quickly and secure the prodigious youngster's signature.
It is believed Ferguson is keen for the youngster to develop with United and their first-team and therefore might not send him out on loan.
"We have scouted Nick for months now, Ferguson said.
"He is an exceptional talent and has been schooled well at Crewe.
"I'm delighted he has chosen to come to United. He has a lot to offer and we are all looking forward to working with him."
