Jo-Wilfried Tsonga looked a force on grass when he knocked Rafa Nadal out of the AEGON Championships at Queen's.
Nadal edged the first set but the fifth seed turned on the style in the decider to come through 6-7 6-4 6-1.
The French Open champion had expressed his feelings of tiredness after securing his sixth title in Paris and it showed in the final set.
He won the last five points of the first set tie-break but after an exchange of breaks early in the second it was the Frenchman who broke at 5-4 to level the match.
Nadal missed a critical forehand volley on game point in the first game of the deciding set and Tsonga went on to break before dominating the remainder of the match, chalking up 25 aces on the way to victory.
"The first time I reached the world top 100 was here at Queen's and today I have beaten the world number one," said Tsonga. "It was close to my best tennis - it has to be to beat Rafa."
